Towards a Hard Systems Approach to IT Adoption in Organizations

Osden JOKONYA

Abstract

The success of IT adoption in organizations not only depends on technical issues but also on social issues. Many researchers have called for balancing technical and social issues during IT adoption in organizations. This paper explores users‘ perceptions on hard systems approaches during IT adoption in organizations. The paper is based on two case studies. However the study results indicate that although hard systems thinking approaches have been successful in addressing problems of efficiency and effectiveness, have challenges when faced with complex problem situations of modern organizations. The study therefore, recommends the complementarity of different systems approaches to address complex problems in organizations.
