Bibliometric Analysis on Discipline Advantages and Potential of 14 Universities (Z14) in Mid-West China

Abstract


Joint application of Web of ScienceTM, ESISM, InCitesTM, JCR® and ISIS Database, by means of bibliometric methods and SPSS® statistic analysis tools, from multi-dimensional and multi-index factors such as the number of published papers, journal source, cited frequencies, highly cited papers and cooperation fields and institutions, ESI (Essential Science Indicators) , potential disciplines and other 16 indicators, the study tracks the growth and inheritance of the dominant disciplines in the last 10 years (2007.1.1-2016.12.31), and the academic contribution of “one province, one university†universities (Z14) in Mid-West China were assessed and analyzed. The characteristics, strengths, and research levels of 14 peer universities were revealed. The paper provides an example of the evaluation of academic productivity and academic influence of peer universities based on bibliometrics.
