Abstract

In view of diagnostic difficulties of inter-faults in transformers, this paper describes a fault sensing method which can be used for detection of inter-turn fault in transformers. The authors designed the position of actual short turns in the winding and used the sensor to detect leakage magnetic flux density in different positions. Then, a two-dimensional finite element model of faulted transformer was built by ANSYS based on the actual structure parameters. It validated the accuracy of the model that comparing the actual measured data with the simulation results. Diagnosis and location of inter-faults is realized by analyzing non-uniform of the leakage magnetic flux.
