Compression of Remote Sensing Images Using an Improved SPIHT Algorithm
Abstract
It is difficult to store the remote sensing images that feature high resolution and high information capacity. To address this problem, we perform three-level wavelet decomposition on the images using the optimal biorthogonal wavelet. Afterwards, the images are coded via SPIHT. The SPIHT algorithm is improved to achieve fixed-scale compression. Extension simulations are conducted. The results show that the proposed method increases PSNR and decreases the compression and decompression time.
