Analysis of Musical Expression Using Tonal Tension and Attraction Models
Abstract
Musical Expression is constructed from repetition of tension and relaxation made from the chord progression, melodic motion and progression, beat structure, rhythmic structure, etc. In addition, musical expression is affected by some kinds of attraction between each adjacent pairs of events of chords. In this article, using the tonal tension and attraction models, some analyses of musical expression for actual performances by top-class pianists are shown. In these analyses, the multiple regression analysis with Akaike Information Criterion is used.
