Abstract

Sugar cane bagasse ash (SCBA) can be used as a mineral admixture has been widely concerned. Several studies have shown that SCBA can be used as partial cement replacement, improving the mechanical properties of SCBA concrete. The present paper summarizes the properties of SCBA, the function mechanisms of SCBA in concrete and influence factors on mechanical properties of SCBA concrete. Regarding the properties of SCBA, it has high content in SiO2 and the particle morphology includes spherical, irregular porous, prismatic and fibrous. The function mechanisms of SCBA in concrete include pozzolanic activity effect and micro-aggregate effect. The influence factors mainly include dosages of SCBA, processing methods of SCBA, mixture designs, water-cement ratio, curing age, etc. Among them, the issue of the dosages of SCBA has drew wide attention. But there are few related studies presently, it is necessary to further explore the sources and processing methods of SCBA which are not yet detailed and standardized.
