Zhang Lü’s Korean Diaspora Cinema in Rhetoric, Ethnographic, and Ethic Perspectives (2010–2014)
Abstract
Zhang Lü, an ethnically Korean Chinese director, the motif of wander and “superimposition†between homeland and an alien land can find its origin in whose special identity and life environment. In his films, we will encounter Korean “wanderers†in mainland China, Mongolia, South Korea and Japan. Some critics notice the similarity between Zhang Lü and Hong Sang-soo, especially in the repeating dining scenes. Although the two directors share resemblant narrative and style, what Zhang Lü tries to expresses is distinguished.
